Wallpaper is Making a Comeback

Farrow & Ball Wallpaper

For many years, wallpaper was considered a thing of the past. Not any longer, for the past several years, wallpaper has been making a comeback. Wallpaper is now considered a popular way to create a unique look in a room. The latest trend we’re seeing at Windo VanGo serving the Baltimore, MD area is to turn your favorite fabric into beautiful wallpaper. Check it out!

Recycle your Old Fabric into Unique Wallpaper

You can turn almost any fabric into wallpaper by using a paper backing available through companies such as Robert Allen and FabWall®. Paper backing is a type of non-woven backing that provides the proper stiffness and, more importantly, the moisture protection to fabrics for pasting to walls. If paper backing is not used, humidity and heat can cause the fabric to bubble and sag, not to mention the adhesives could seep through the front of the fabric. To protect the front of the fabric, it can also be treated with a stain protection that makes it resistant to moisture and stains and can be cleaned with a moist sponge.

How to Select the Right Fabrics

Almost any fabric can be used as wall covering. However, there are some useful guidelines that you may find helpful when selecting which fabric to use. We suggest staying away from:

  • Fabrics with horizontal stripes or horizontal repeats
  • Loosely woven fabrics
  • Fabrics that have a precision pattern where seams meet, such as leaves of a tree

Why use Fabric as Wallpaper?

Although some fabrics are more suited for wallpaper, you can use virtually any fabric as a wall covering. Plus, there are many benefits to using fabric on your walls, including:

  • Maintains original color, texture, and quality of fabric
  • Provides a striking effect on vertical surfaces
  • Extra thickness helps conceal blemishes on wall
  • Aids in sound absorption and insulation
  • Coordinates with other accessories in the room

So, have some fun and make your walls a conversation starter. The options are endless!
